FRUIT COLLECTION

Action GT-5

Fruit collection and characterization of fruit and seeds from the most representative species

Fruit collection and characterization of fruit and seeds from the most representative species

SUMMARY AND OBJECTIVES

The fruit collection / spermatheca will be used to morphologically characterize each one of the included species.

In the morphometric characterization, basic image analysis techniques are used to obtain the biometric parameters of seeds and fruits of each of these species. Discriminant statistical analyses will allow establishing the variability ranges of these parameters within each species and between related species. .

On the basis of this characterization, dichotomous keys can be produced to establish, based on the seeds of a sample, whether each of them belongs to a specific species. The typology of flowery meadows resulting from the flora and geographical analysis of the GT1 populations will allow drafting some basic guidelines related to the composition of seed mixtures for their commercial use in every pilot region.

The objectives to be achieved by this task force are:

icono-mariposa To provide a method to identify pratense fruits and seeds based on their own biometric characteristics.

icono-mariposa To develop diagnostic tools to assess the quality of commercial seed mixtures by the certification authorities or consumers.

The INIAV’s experience in the characterization of the species with an agronomic interest will be used to achieve the objectives. UNIOVI and CBNPMP will support this task.
