Hay meadows, agro-ecosystems maintained by the secular actions of man are disappearing all over Europe and with them, large areas of related biodiversity. These are among those included in the European priority habitats and the EU Biodiversity Strategy recognises their poor conservation status.
Hay meadows, agro-ecosystems maintained by the secular actions of man are disappearing all over Europe and with them, large areas of related biodiversity. These are among those included in the European priority habitats and the EU Biodiversity Strategy recognises their poor conservation status.
The main cause of disappearance is changes in land management: intensified use where topography allows easy access; and abandonment, in mountain areas or wetlands, without forgetting urban pressures on small holdings closest to town centres.
The project SOS Praderas has been approved in the framework of the first aid scheme for Interreg Sudoe Programme 2014-2020 and is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) with a total amount of 933,000 euros.
