Diagnosis of the situation of hay meadows in the SUDOE territory

SUMMARY AND OBJECTIVES

This task force aims to evaluate, on the basis of prior information and the data resulting from their activities, the current conservation state of hay meadows in the SUDOE territory. The evaluation and diagnosis will be performed in the selected special protected areas (Sites of Community Interest, Natural Parks, and National Parks).

The objectives of this task force can be summarized as follows:

icono-mariposa Development of an analysis methodology that can be applied in other territories to characterize and evaluate the conservation status of the 6510 and 6520 habitats in the SUDOE area, as well as to prioritize the zones with the highest conservation needs.

icono-mariposa Provide updated information on each of the referred project areas to allow for adequate evaluation the conservation status by means of indicators and appropriate descriptors.

MAIN PRODUCT
Diagnosis method to assess the current status of hay meadows (6510 and 6520) in the pilot protected areas located in the partners working areas.
TARGET GROUPS

Business associations of producers and manufacturers, universities and higher education centres. Scientific/ technological parks and centres, institutes, laboratories and research centres, the Regional Administration, the Local Administration, National Parks, Regional Natural Parks.

TRANSFER OF MAIN GENERATED PRODUCTS

The information resulting from this task force is key information for the future management of fragile and protected plant formations in the framework of these LICs.

They will by all means also produce some scientific publications demonstrating or revoking the existing hypothesis relating to the origin of this transformation and disappearance. They will help to detect the most valuable areas of pratense plant diversity, and will guide the areas to be sampled for other biodiversity studies and sampling of other biological groups (pollinators, butterflies, birds, etc.).

They will also be useful to identify potential beneficiaries for new CAP aids to be explored by the project and to inform other players (active tourism companies or those related to nature) about interesting places to visit to emphasize the value of this kind of traditional management. Undoubtedly, this information is also essential to identify potential seed providers for purchasing companies, in terms of the new products to be generated by the project.

ACTIVITIES

Floristic – phytosociological and soil characterization of mesophile hay meadows in the study areas and elaboration of a data base and cartography related to the characterization of hay meadows.

Evolutionary diagnosis of flowery meadows in RN2000 pilot areas and evaluation of their conservation state. Production of an evaluation report on the conservation state of flowery hay meadows.
